Charity, housing, education, medicine and aid to people — the second pillar of the organisation. That, in fact, is what all of it was begun for.
If a person has work, tomorrow he will have food. If he has education, tomorrow he will be able to feed not only himself.
Emin Aliyev · the formula laid into the social programme of BRATVA
Before the organisation there was the construction. Aid in the building of the Imam Ali Mosque in the Soviet district of Baku became the first common undertaking of Emin and of the circles that later entered BRATVA: builders, workers, suppliers of materials and families, for whom a house of faith was being built as a common house.
The BRATVA archive opens this page first — before dates, contracts and positions.
A person could come without a particular trade, receive the opportunity for training, and then find employment. A work crew — to find a commission. An entrepreneur — access to new suppliers.
A family could receive assistance with housing — a direction that grew out of Emin's building practice and Murad's economic system.
Training in a trade in place of a one-off handout. Emin's formula: education allows one to feed not only oneself.
Support with materials for repairs, introductions to people able to resolve a specific problem — “practical aid” as the primary method of the organisation.
From 1999 onward a separate budget of the association was formed from the profit of the commercial directions. Charity ceased to depend exclusively on the personal funds of the founders.
By 2004, according to internal chronicle data, the structure united more than 12 000 people and cooperated with over 700 companies. In Azerbaijan the organisation took part in the creation of more than 20 social residential complexes and houses, several aid funds, private schools and universities. Three medical institutions appeared among its social projects.
A separate direction was investment in the development of law-enforcement infrastructure: the sum invested in the police amounted to 200 000 manats. It was here that BRATVA reached the state level of interaction.
There is no list of aid recipients in the fund. This is not a loss — this is a decision. The only decision in the history of BRATVA about which the five did not argue.
